FAQs about LUMC

How do I join the club?
Go to the Sports Centre and ask to join the Mountaineering Club, or go to and click the join button in the "Athletic Union Membership". The membership rate is the same for all the University AU clubs: £40 to join your first club (or £55 if you are not a University of Liverpool student) and £24 for any extra clubs you decide to join.
That seems like a lot of money…why should I join?
Membership is excellent value for money. Benefits include:
  • Use our extensive range of club equipment, including harnesses, helmets, ropes, trad gear, bouldering mats, crampons, ice axes, guide books and maps
  • AU membership – personal accident cover and free physiotherapy at the Sports Injuries Clinic
  • British Mountaineering Council (BMC) membership. Benefits include discounts at over 800 outdoor retailers
  • Cheap food and drinks deals at the Hope and Anchor
You will learn new skills, go to new places, meet new people, explore new opportunities and you might just possibly have the best time of your life!
Do I need any previous experience to join the club?
We welcome both experienced people and complete new comers alike!
When do you train?
Mondays: Bouldering at the Climbing Hangar we are there all evening. Entry cost £6.50.

Wednesdays: Top roped/lead climbing at Awesome Walls Liverpool. starting at Awesome walls at 2.30 pm. Entry is £6, we will bring harnesses and ropes if you ask us too.

Thursdays: Alternate weeks Training at the University Sports Centre Bouldering Wall from 5pm, followed by a social. Meet at the wall. Cost is £3 for standard or non-members and free for premium members of the sports centre.
When are trips/events?
Check the Facebook page for details of all upcoming trips/socials etc
How do I buy a ticket for trips? When will the tickets be available?
A link will be posted on the Facebook event page about a week before the trip. This will allow you to buy a ticket through our Groupspaces page. Check the specific event page for details & updates.
Do I need to be a member of the club to come on trips? Do I really need to bring everything on the kit list?
Yes to both. If you are missing an essential piece of kit and won’t have a chance to get it before the trip, try posting on the group page as you might be able to borrow it from someone else.
